An evening to cherish: Presenting Mrs India New Zealand
"Beauty is forever" was the highlight of this amazing show, held at the artistic Hawkins theatre in Auckland. Mrs India New Zealand 2014, showcased on October 18, brought together some of the most beautiful and desirable women, from all across the land of long white cloud, Aotearoa. The event was organized by Mrs Sukhvinder Bhullar for a charitable cause and was emceed by Doreen Joshi.
Participating in the pageant was not an easy task for the fifteen pretty women. Most of them had to fit in their preparation for the contest, along with the daily grind of jobs and household duties, including kids. Now this was quite a challenge, also taking into consideration the fact that some of the ladies had never been a part of such an event. Bernadotte Soares, Janesh Kharbanda and Anita Prasad were the three judges for the night.
The ladies showed amazing confidence, poise and grace as they sashayed the ramp in different costumes, set to some peppy Bollywood music combined with some Western pop and R&B. Even though the models looked stunning in most outfits, but the one which really blew the audience away, especially the kiwi crowd, was the national /traditional costume. More so because the kiwis hardly get to see Indian women dressed in flash yet elegant saris. The women looked gorgeous in beautiful saris, lehnga and shalwar kameez. The audience just loved the beautiful colours that sparkled on stage whether it was pink, blue, green, orange or white. The beach wear round was also quite popular, more so for the younger section of the crowd. Evening gown section also lit up the stage.
Bhavna Singh Chahal won the coveted title of Mrs NZ 2014 followed by Parmeet Sahni and Suman Sabharwal as the first and second runners up. Shelza Khan won the beach wear round. Neeti Mahindru emerged on top in the national costume round.
It was a memorable evening that showcased some of the most gorgeous women of Indian origin, in the beautiful kiwi land. Just like the theme of this pageant, "Beauty Never Dies", the women were not only beautiful physically from outside but mentally as well. Just listening to them, it seemed that their mindset was incredible. It also reminded us of the fact that marriage should not act as a deterrent to a women's ability to do anything. As is so common amongst our culture, women take up most of the burden after marriage; they bear kids, still do jobs, cook for the family and are more prominent in the kids' upbringing. It was awesome to hear some of their beautiful thoughts as they shared their passion to help the poor and distressed and help uplift the status of those women, who are less fortunate. Let's give a big salute to the spirit of all the lovely ladies who made this evening so special.
